Documents You Need for Residency Visa Processing in Dubai

Obtaining a residency visa is crucial if you intend to live, work, study, or make investments in the United Arab Emirates. While there are differences in the types of residency visas and sponsors available, there are many common documents that are required by most applicants for residency visas. By having these documents prepared ahead of time, you can save yourself from possible delays during the application process.

Valid Passport

A passport that is currently valid is required for residency visa processing and is the most important and must-have document required for residency visa processing. In most instances, the passport must remain valid for at least six months. Generally, clear photocopies of both the personal information page of the passport and any visas currently held are required.

Passport-Sized Photographs

The Candidate must provide photo quality that adheres to official UAE regulations and is considered “recent”. The photograph should be taken in front of a plain white background and clearly depict the individual’s facial features.

Entry Permit or Current Visa

An applicant must provide a copy of the entry permit or visa (visit or change status) for any applicant that is currently located in the UAE, thereby confirming that he/she has legally entered the country.

Medical Fitness Test

All residency visa applicants will also be required to pass a medical fitness examination. The examination will be completed at one of the medical clinics within the UAE, and includes several basic health tests. Medical clearance must be received before the residency visa can be issued.

Emirates ID Registration

Emirates ID is the next step in securing residency status within the UAE. As part of the Emirates ID application process, residents need to have their fingerprints and photo taken by a biometric scanner.

Sponsor Documents

Those applying for residency in Dubai are required to have a sponsor; the sponsor can either be a business (for example, an employer) or a personal (family) connection. Employers may provide prospective employees (candidates) with various forms of supporting documentation and evidence as sponsors. Common documents used to support applications from employers include employment contracts, company trade licences, salary certificates and/or proof of personal relationships to the prospective employee.

Proof of Accommodation

Applicants must demonstrate that they are residing in Dubai with proof of residence (e.g., Tenancy Agreement or housing contract). All applications must show that they live at the local address listed on their application.

Additional Supporting Documents

If applying for a residency visa based upon a relationship, some applicants may be asked for additional supporting documentation (educational qualifications, marriage/birth certificates, etc.) and also may require attestation of the documents to be submitted with the Application.

Conclusion

There are many steps and document submissions required for residency visas in Dubai. While there may be many possibilities for how the residency process works depending on your specific circumstances, if you have completed the necessary basic residential documents that are up to date before starting this process, this should help expedite your experience with obtaining the residency visa.
